Enjoy the camaraderie with Outward Bound
Adventurous training courses for youngsters are set to kick off for the summer season.
The Island version of Outward Bound is running a total of four, five-day residential courses — two for boys and two for girls.
Outward Bound executive director Mark Norman, a serving Bermuda Police officer, said: “There’s a lot of team-building, including a high ropes course, different sports and activities as well as individual elements.”
Other activities run from the Outward Bound base on Paget Island in St George’s Harbour include canoeing and kayaking, as well as orienteering, all under the watchful eye of trained instructors.
Mr Norman said: “It’s a chance for young people to get together, get to know each other and enjoy the camaraderie that builds over the courses.
“It’s quite strenuous and not an easy week, but the participants always get a lot out of it.”
The courses are open to schoolchildren aged 12-14 and start on Monday, June 29, for boys.
The second, also for boys, begins on Monday, July 6, with the two courses for girls beginning on Mondays, July 13 and 20.
Among the instructors running the courses are police officers, civilians and Bermuda Regiment soldiers.
Outward Bound was founded in the UK in 1941 and had since spread around the world, operating in more than 30 countries.
The courses cost $350 per student and includes meals and all equipment.
