Dockyard family festival this weekend

A two-day family festival filled with entertainment and activities is set for this weekend in Dockyard.

In collaboration with Wedco and the Chewstick Foundation, the group known as the Committee of Five has banded together to bring a series of events for families with options for adults and youngsters.

Committee organisers Eugene Dean, Crystal Lightbourne, Colette Lightbourne, Nicole Bean and Tracey Smith promised this weekend’s festival will be “even bigger and better” than the first, which was held in April.

“Our plan is to reintroduce classic fair games while incorporating local entertainment, competitions and vendors providing food, clothing, accessories and a variety of activities for all ages.”

Activities will include live entertainment from Chewstick artists, vendors, Gombeys, dance groups, train rides, archery, laser tag, fun castles, pony rides, water sports, motorbikes and raffles.

In a statement issued today, the group said: “The plans for this weekend’s festival include more vendors and additional activities for everyone to enjoy.

“If you have yet to experience the Royal Naval Dockyard Family Festival, travel west this weekend with your large blankets, towels or chairs. This is your opportunity to spend quality time with your family engaged in the variety of age appropriate activities that each of you can enjoy.

“The Committee of Five has introduced a new area just for toddlers, Teen X-Games, Spider Jump, numerous new fair games and an amazing raffle as well. The Chewstick Foundation is organising the entertainment and part proceeds from the event will go toward the ongoing construction of the Chewstick Culture Hub. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available and the organisers are always keen to have new vendors involved. For more information, please e-mail co5@emperialgroup.org or contact Crystal Lightbourne at 1.441.338.1054.”

Additional ferries have been arranged for the festival to allow persons travelling from eastern and central areas to park in Hamilton and take a 20-minute ride to Dockyard. Ferry service from Hamilton to Dockyard will run from 9am until 7.30pm.
