Firefighters hit by motorcycle
Four firefighters were struck by a motorcyclist while attending to a patient involved in a road traffic collision.
The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service was responding to a report of a car hitting a utility pole on Harrington Sound Road when the officers were hit by the bike travelling east, with two of them suffering neck and back pain as a result.
The incident happened shortly before 4am, near the junction with Wilkinson Avenue.
Fire spokesman, Acting Lieutenant Jamal Albuoy, said in a statement: “One male patient was extricated from the vehicle with the use of our extrication equipment, commonly referred to as the jaws of life.
“While BFRS staff were preparing to take the patient to the hospital, a motorcyclist not involved in the original accident struck four firefighters.
“Two firefighters complained of neck and back pain, while the remaining two firefighters sustained minor injuries; none of which are considered life-threatening. All personnel received medical attention at the hospital and were released.”
Mr Albuoy said the motorcyclist was dealt with by police who were present at the scene.
The driver in the initial accident suffered leg and hip injuries and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. The motorcyclist was uninjured.
