A 12-year-old boy who sustained head injuries at Sandys Secondary Middle School, requiring hospital treatment yesterday, was hurt by “careless recreational behaviour”, the Department of Education announced this afternoon.
The incident at 1pm was not believed to be one of malicious intent, a spokesman for the department said, after an investigation by police.
The student was initially described as being “set upon” by others. The department thanked police and medical services for their quick response.
“Bermuda’s teachers and the Department of Education work hard to diminish the frequency of these incidents,” the spokesman added.
“The Ministry is committed to ensuring that all students are safe, responsible, respectful and ready to learn.”
