Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art hosted the seventh Charman Prize at the weekend.

Established by art collector and businessman John Charman, the biennial award invites local artists of all abilities, styles and mediums to showcase their work.

Mr Charman’s intention was to provide “an exhibition that can draw from all our senses and provide visual interpretations of our island, its culture and its people”.

The grand prize of $10,000 went to Chris Dawson for his painting, ‘Three Queens’.

A new $5,000 award for an emerging artist went to A. Lisa Ty for her graphite and charcoal portrait, ‘Bermuda Pride’.

The Judges Choice awards of $2,000 each went to Lexy Correia, Jacqueline Alma, Rohan Shastri, Calix Smith and Matthew Johnston, while Jacqueline Alma also took the Masterworks Collection prize, where the committee reserves the option to purchase one work for inclusion in their collection.

Honourable mentions were given to Lynn Morrell, Anthony Mahabir, Otto Trott, Frank Dublin, Kelly Hunt and Stratton Hatfield.
