Southampton East Central MP Leah Scott and One Bermuda Alliance branch members joined the public in a major clean-up of Jews Bay public dock.
Ms Scott identified Jews Bay as one of the focal points in her constituency “in need of some TLC”.
She said: “It’s very visible on the way to Dockyard and with the America’s Cup coming up and the various families that are residing in Bermuda, we want to make sure the area looks good.
“We need to take care of our island.”
Ms Scott told The Royal Gazette about the event on Saturday: “We had a good turn-out. We actually started at 10am and by 11.15am we were finished.
“I have to give kudos to minister Craig Cannonier because he had his workers come. They had a trash truck to come and pick up most of the stuff that we weren’t able to pick up.”
Friends, volunteers and constituents picked up the remaining detritus.
“It was a good day,” she said. “Everybody kind of pitched in. We did the bus shelter and we raked up leaves, picked up bottles, picked up all the trash.
“We cut down the cane grass and we got a lot of stuff done, so it was good.”
Ms Scott expressed gratitude at the recent efforts of those instigating the cleaning up and maintenance of public spaces, while encouraging more.
She said: “Yes, we are the government, but the Island belongs to all of us.
“We can all pull together and put our resources together to clean it up and make it a beautiful place.
“Bermuda’s a fantastic island. I’ve travelled many, many places and when I come home it’s always nice.
“Whether it’s day or night, I’m so glad to be back home.”
