Promotional video accompanies new book
Author Jonathan Smith has released a promotional video to accompany his new book Island Flames.
The 48-second clip features photographs taken in and around the time of Bermuda’s deadliest riots in 1977, as well as information about the book.
“We recognised, at the outset, that social media and traditional media needed to be merged as part of our marketing strategy for Island Flames,” Mr Smith said.
“We wanted to do something highly visual, mobile, innovative and creative and with that, we devised a schedule of pre-book release extracts on Carla Zuill’s Today In Bermuda news site — we believe a first for a Bermuda book to have extracts exclusively online.
“With the video promotion, we were delighted to collaborate with award-winning Bermudian film director Lucinda Spurling and the well-known and talented Glenn Jones. This is yet another quality piece of work coming out of Spurling’s Afflare Films company.”
The video was directed and produced by Ms Spurling and the voiceover was done by Mr Jones.
Mr Smith added that collaboration with other Bermudian talent such as researcher and contributor, Cordell Riley, researchers Coggy Gibbons, Benedict Greening, Ayo Johnson and Karli Jai Powell made Island Flames the reality it is today.
The 360-page hardback detailing the events surrounding the 1977 riots is set to be released at a special book launch later this month.
Former Premier Alex Scott, the last surviving Bermudian member of the Pitt Commission, will unveil the book at The Bookmart in Brown & Co on October 21 at 6.30pm.
