Tips for ‘green boating’ this weekend
With an estimated 1,000 private boats expected to flock into the Great Sound over the race weekend, Public Works and the Corporation of Hamilton have asked spectators to take extra care with waste.
Because public docks will be under heavy use, the public are asked not to place bagged garbage and recyclables on docks.
During the event, charter boats dropping passengers off at Albuoy’s Point can dispose of blue recycling bags and regular waste bags in skips at the shore.
In addition, spectators have been asked to abide by the following tips:
• Pick up and dispose of any floating plastic
• Limit fuel consumption and engine use time
• Avoid spills when fuelling up
• Minimise waste with reusable cups, plates and utensils
• Bag waste in bin bags, and recyclable cans and bottles in blue bags
• Take waste home to include with regular collection
• Be careful where you anchor
