Special day for father and son
It is a special day for Canon Thomas Nisbett, who turns 90 today — his newly ordained son is on the Island for his birthday and will preach at a special sermon.
Trips home are few and far between for the junior Tom Nisbett, who is now a deacon at the Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
To mark the occasion, Reverend Nisbett has been invited to give the sermon at tomorrow’s service of thanksgiving in the Anglican Cathedral.
Rev Nisbett, who was ordained in July and received the ceremonial red sash from his father for the occasion, has enjoyed a lengthy career in the Anglican Church. Describing his short visit as a whirlwind trip back to the Island, Rev Nisbett said the opportunity to preach tomorrow was “a great privilege indeed”.
Canon Nisbett’s birthday will be celebrated with an evensong at the cathedral, in conjunction with the annual harvest thanksgiving service, which starts at 4pm.
