A man who has since been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving survived a crash early Saturday morning that resulted in his vehicle ending in Hamilton Harbour.
A police spokesman said: “At about 1.48am, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction of Lovers Lane. It was reported that the male driver of a car travelling west collided with a retaining wall on the northern side of the carriageway next to Lower Ferry before going overboard into the harbour. The male driver, who was the only occupant inside the vehicle was apparently not injured, however he was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”
The vehicle was rescued from the harbour this morning, resulting in traffic being disrupted for about an hour, from 8.30am.
All traffic restrictions have been lifted and flow is back to normal.
