Bermuda to support World Town Planning Day

Michael Fahy, the Minister of Home Affairs

The Department of Planning is inviting members of the public to recognise World Town Planning Day this Friday.

According to a press release, Bermuda supports World Town Planning Day as an opportunity to promote better understanding and awareness of Bermuda’s Planners and planning to local communities and all levels of government.

This year’s theme is ‘Housing Regeneration: Strengthening Communities’, while the Department will host an open house showcasing the work and public contribution towards a local plan for North East Hamilton.

The Department says it welcomes people to see the ideas that have been generated so far and to provide their own input as the process of creating a plan continues. A tour of the Department may also be available.

Michael Fahy, the Minister of Home Affairs, stated: “The primary reasons that we celebrate World Town Planning Day are to draw attention to the aims, objectives, and progress of urban and regional planning around the globe, to highlight the valuable contributions sound planning has made to the quality of global human settlements and their environment and to give worldwide coverage to the ideals of urban and regional planning not only within the profession but also among the general public.

“In some way, shape, or form, the profession of planning is integral to everyone. As such we would like to take this opportunity to open our doors to engage with the community.”
