Car window tinting changes

A reminder has been issued by the Ministry of Tourism Development and Transport regarding changes to the laws on tinting on car windows.

The amendments came into effect on November 6, allowing slightly darker tints.

It follows a 2014 policy introduced by the Transport Control Department for public service vehicles, which the Government extended to taxis and subsequently to all cars.

It allows for the forward passenger window and driver side window to be tinted no less than 35 per cent, and the rear passenger window to be tinted no less than 24 per cent.

The change was justified on the basis that tinting reduces heat and glare from the sun, helps for more efficient car air conditioning and reduces the amount of fuel needed to run a vehicle.
