Emergency services this afternoon responded to an overturned catamaran in Somerset Long Bay.

According to a spokesman for the Department of Marine and Ports Services, a member of the public alerted Harbour Radio to the incident at about 4pm.

A police rescue vessel was dispatched and righted the catamaran after attempts by other boats in the area proved unsuccessful.

The spokesman added that there was only one person on board the catamaran.
