Thomas appointed new Auditor-General
Government House has announced the appointment of Heather Thomas as the new Auditor-General.
The Governor, George Fergusson, said: “I am delighted that Ms Thomas has accepted this role. The post of Auditor-General provides a critical link in the chain of public accountability and is one that is vital to the democratic process of responsible government. Ms Thomas is highly qualified for the job’s challenges and responsibilities.”
Ms Thomas is expected to take up her duties by May 2016. Heather Jacobs Matthews will continue in the role for the time being.
Ms Thomas, a Bermudian, obtained a bachelor’s degree from St Francis Xavier University in Canada and has CPA, CFE and CGMA professional designations. She has worked both locally and internationally, and in both the public and private sector. For the six years to June this year, she worked for the Bermuda Government as the director of internal audit.
