Drink-driver gets 18-month ban on birthday
A Paget woman who crashed her car while drink-driving has been banned from the road for 18 months.
Melissa Furtado attended Magistrates’ Court this morning, on her 32nd birthday, where she pleaded guilty to driving while impaired.
The court heard that, at 11.30pm on October 27, police officers found a white Mazda with extensive damage at the junction of Church Road.
Ms Furtado, who was not hurt badly hurt, told the officers she had “just lost control” of the vehicle.
However, they noticed that the defendant’s eyes were glazed and her breath smelled of alcohol.
She then claimed to have had one glass of wine that evening, but apologised later that night after being arrested and brought to Southampton Police Station.
As well as disqualifying her from driving for 18 months, Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Ms Furtado $400.
