Hamilton’s salute to disabled

The streets of Hamilton will look a little different tomorrow, as the city commemorates the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Hamilton is supporting the Disability Advisory Council with a proclamation, and the public are invited to join a march on Front Street at 11am from the Flagpole.

Government dignitaries, staff from Ageing and Disability Services and various community organisations will march to City Hall for short speeches marking the day.

Fifteen signs will rotate among the existing 37 Disabled Parking bays to remind motorists not to abuse the special bays by parking illegally, even briefly.

The signs will remain up during the holiday season, when disabled parking is most often abused, and the public is encouraged to report instances of abuse.
