Run raises up to $7,000 for children
A fundraiser aimed at helping to purchase athletic uniforms for children has raised about $7,000 according to organisers.
The Big Dell Run took place last Saturday with teachers, parents, celebrities and alumni taking to the Victor Scott School field and running laps to raise money to support Dellwood Middle School students.
Organiser Joyann Clarke said yesterday: “We are looking to outfit our school athletes with athletic uniforms. Right now they compete in their PE clothes and that’s not appropriate for all sports.”
Participants, including Craig Cannonier, Chris Furbert and Dale Butler, were tasked with raising donations to sponsor their running several laps around the field.
“It wasn’t a race, just a fundraising event which promoted fitness,” Ms Clarke said. “Most of the celebrities ran two laps, and they were paid $100 per lap by their sponsors.”
