Church offering free Christmas lunch
A free Christmas lunch is still going to be served on Friday, despite Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church losing its traditional sponsorship.
For the fifth year running, the church is providing Christmas lunch for families who might not otherwise get to enjoy a yuletide meal.
“We are and continue to be very blessed — this is the spirit of Christmas,” said church pastor Sydney Gibbons.
“Despite the continuous downturn on the Island, with those who have recently lost their jobs, we still have a responsibility to the community at large, particularly during this special time of year.”
The event, which has been attended by about 200 at a time over the years, will be held at noon, running until 4pm, at the Seventh-day Adventist church on King Street, Hamilton.
The traditional holiday menu, with roast turkey, will include vegetarian options and desserts.
It had previously been supported by Bermuda CableVision, but this year the church decided to “go it alone”, Dr Gibbons said, seeking contributions from members.
It will be followed by a 7pm Christmas service with music.
