Student staging show to fund education
A young Bermudian theatre student is putting on a production for one day only to help to fund his education.
Marcus Arjai Smith is bringing his “variety and visual show” to St Paul AME Centennial Hall today to raise money for his return to New York to continue his studies.
Mr Smith, who goes by the stage name Zebrakid, promises that there will be “singing, dancing, acting, cheerleading and videos”.
The New York University student’s latest scholarship came from the Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival, when he was awarded $4,000 towards his studies, as was fellow Bermudian actor Rowan Vickers.
Another prestigious achievement was when he received assistance from the Catherine Zeta-Jones Scholarship in Honour of Patricia Calnan, while additional help has come from local production companies and other organisations.
The secret to his success, according to the 19-year-old, is having a true passion for what he does.
Tickets to the show are available by messaging Marcus Zebrakid Smith or Carla Juanita Hayward Smith on Facebook.
The doors open at 5.30pm and the show starts at 6pm.
