Unemployment down, fewer Bermudians working
Unemployment fell in Bermuda over the last year according to Government statistics, but the number of Bermudians in the workforce dropped by 2 per cent.
The 2015 Labour Force Survey Executive Report, released yesterday, confirmed earlier estimations that unemployment in Bermuda was at seven per cent.
While the number of unemployed fell from 3,210 in 2014 to 2,348 in 2015, the survey found that the working population fell from 33,717 to 33,680.
The number of Bermudians in the workforce fell by 413, while the number of non-Bermudians in the workforce increased by 377 (5 per cent).
The figures also state that the median gross annual employment income rose by around 5 per cent from $60,295 to $63,271.
Premier Michael Dunkley said: “This report provides findings on employment and the unemployment with comparisons for the years 2012 to 2015.
“Readers should note that since releasing the 2015 Labour Force Survey Preliminary Report in August 2015, the Department of Statistics has reweighed the survey results for the years 2012 through 2015 using population projections. The results published in the preliminary report and in reports published previously used the 2010 Census data for weighting purposes.”
