Customs to hold open house

An open house will take place at the No 6 cruise ship passenger terminal as part of International Customs Day next Tuesday.

The annual week of events, which this year has the theme, Digital Customs: Progressive Engagement, will begin with a service at St Paul AME Church on Sunday at 11am.

The open house will run from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday, and will feature a series of displays and demonstrations, while people will be able to interact with customs officers.

School students are encouraged to compete for prizes in the interactive displays.

A fun run, walk and cycle event is scheduled for Wednesday, beginning at 9am at Clearwater Beach car park and ending at the LF Wade International Airport cargo shed.

Lucinda Pearman, collector of customs, said: “The customs department continues to play an important role in the Bermuda economy and our mission is to promote compliance with Bermuda’s customs laws through quality service and responsible enforcement, thereby contributing to the economic and social stability of our community.

“Members of our staff are responsible for facilitating trade, assessing and collecting revenue and interdicting drugs and other contraband.

“Come to our open day and learn more about who we are, and what we do.”
