A man was chased and shot at on Court Street shortly after 7pm today, with no injuries reported and the assailants making good their escape.
Police say two men with a firearm ran after another man through Court Street, and then on to Angle Street; it is understood the gun was discharged near the junction with Angle Street. According to people nearby, the trio ran past bystanders and groups of people socialising.
A heavy police presence was in the area, and the road was closed between Till’s Hill and Elliot Street.
It was the second incident today, after a man was shot on North Shore Road, Pembroke, near the junction with Overview Hill; and the third firearms incident in 24 hours after an armed robbery at the RUBiS Van Buren gas station in Flatts.
A police spokesman said: “At 7:07pm on Friday evening police responded to a report of a firearms incident that took place between Court Street and Angle Street.
“It appears that two males on foot were chasing a man through Court Street then on to Angle Street with a firearm. Forensically it was identified that a firearm was discharged however it does not appear that anyone was harmed and the two males suspects left the area undetected.
“Police cordoned off the area and the scene was processed by the relevant units.”
