A 20-year-old woman is in critical condition in hospital with serious head injuries after a single-vehicle accident last night.

According to police, another 22-year-old woman has injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and is recuperating on a general ward.

A spokesman said the car crashed into a stationary trailer that was parked on the side of the road on Middle Road, Southampton, in the area of Jews Bay at about 11.10pm. Both women were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The scene was processed by the forensic support unit and the traffic collision investigators.

An investigation into the accident is under way and police are appealing for witnesses who saw the crash to contact them on 295-0011.
