Opposition leader Marc Bean and his wife have donated $5,000 to help the Somerset Trojans football team compete in Haiti.

Presenting Somerset Cricket Club president Alfred Maybury with a cheque outside the House of Assembly, Mr Bean said it was a pleasure to help the team represent Bermuda at the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship, which will be held next month.

Mr Maybury thanked Mr and Mrs Bean, stating: “This will go a long way in helping the team to get there and I know the team is going to do their best to represent Somerset and Bermuda.”

The club president added that the competition was more than just a learning experience, saying: “We’re Somerset. We go to win. Our chances are just as good as everyone else’s.”
