Bermuda featured in wedding magazine
The island has been featured as a top wedding destination in the Destination Weddings and Honeymoons magazine.
Describing Bermuda as retaining a tropical island vibe despite not being in the Caribbean, the article highlights our “rich” wedding traditions.
“The piece is focused on easily accessible destination wedding locations,” the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s director of public and stakeholder relations Glenn Jones said.
“In 2015, between April and December, the visitors’ arrival cards recorded 3,965 visitors in the destination weddings category.”
He added that the coverage on Bermuda is the result of the BTA collaborating with the magazine’s editorial team in February last year.
“Though not part of the Caribbean, this British overseas territory — marooned in the Atlantic Ocean 600 miles from the coast of North Carolina — retains a tropical-island vibe, albeit genteel,” the feature’s author, Erika Hueneke, wrote.
“Men’s formalwear consists of shorts, sport jackets and long socks, and you wouldn’t stop a stranger for directions without first asking, ‘How do you do?’”
Pubs and pink beaches coexist in perfect harmony, with Stonehole Bay being popular for I do’s, the feature added.
“Wedding traditions are rich — walk through a moon-gate arch for good luck, serve cakes wrapped in gold and silver leaf and plant a sapling in honour of your union.”
The Reefs is suggested as the place to stay, with the friendly service and setting garnering a mention.
Meanwhile, Caso’s Point is highlighted as a top spot for ceremonies, while Coconuts restaurant is the suggested reception location.
A local Gombey performance or a steel-pan artist are highlighted as the ideal soundtrack choice.
“If your gang gets a little carried away with rum swizzles, there are worse places to end up than the infinity pool, carved into the cliff seven stories above the shore,” the feature concluded.
