Trash ‘eyesore is out of hand’, says Bascome

Clean this up: the proposed hotel site in St George’s has proven to be a dumping grounds for trash(Photographs by Blaire Simmons)

MP Kenneth Bascome has raised fresh concern over growing mounds of trash being dumped at the old St George’s Golf Course.

Mr Bascome branded the area, which is now littered with old furniture, rusting car parts, vehicles and other debris, an “eyesore”.

The former mayor urged residents to dispose of their trash in the appropriate way.

“This eyesore has just got worse and worse,” Mr Bascome said.

“It has got completely out of hand. There is everything under the sun dumped up there from fridges to sinks to washing machines and driers.

“It is a death trap to species like skinks and lizards as well as a breeding ground for mosquitoes and rodents.”

Mr Bascome told The Royal Gazette that the area needed to undergo a major clean-up operation.

“The fact is that this parcel of land will hopefully in the near future be developed into a luxury resort so we need to treat our open spaces with more respect,” said Mr Bascome.
