A teenage motorcyclist who died after a three-vehicle collision on Collector’s Hill has been named by police as Judah Burchall.

The 17-year-old suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash, which took place at 10.52pm on Saturday.

The teenager, who was riding an auxiliary cycle, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

A female rider on the other motorcycle was also taken to hospital, where she is being treated for an arm injury. The driver of the car involved was not injured.

The area was cordoned off while officers processed the scene.

A family liaison officer has also been assigned to assist the Burchall family.

In the wake of last night’s shooting death and road traffic fatality, the Minister of National Security, Senator Jeffrey Baron, said: “Two families this morning confront the tragedy of losing loved ones. No matter the circumstances, the loss of ?such young life strikes hardest in our community and our first thoughts and prayers must be with the families and friends who now mourn their loss.

“In the coming days, weeks and months, they will need our support as they face the impact of such tragic events.”

The Progressive Labour Party also extended its condolences to the families and friends of the two young men who died.

A statement released on behalf of Walter Roban, the Shadow Minister of Home Affairs, and Michael Weeks, the Shadow Minister of Health and Community Affairs, said: “We are once again disappointed and saddened by the report of another road fatality, and also to hear of another young person falling victim to gun violence.

“This should remind everyone that it is going to take actions by every users of our roads to make them safe so these reports of road deaths become a thing of the past.

“Every fatality on Bermuda’s roads is one too many. Gun violence continues to bring hurt, loss and tragedy to our community. It is not just policing that is going to stop these activities, but we must be prepared to look at the roots causes that draw our citizens to commit these acts.

“The desperation that many find themselves in with limited opportunity, coupled with social and economic challenges has to be faced honestly if we are to reverse this trend.

“Again, our sympathy remains with the families of the victims who find themselves having lost a loved one, and we appeal to anyone with information to come forward.”

• An investigation into the fifth fatal collision of the year is under way and any witnesses or persons that were travelling along Collectors Hill at about 10.50pm on Saturday should contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011
