Mother begs for information on missing son
Gloria Daniels, the mother of missing Jevon Daniels, fought back tears as she pleaded alongside police for those with knowledge of his disappearance to end her family’s grief and come forward.
Now missing for two weeks, Mr Daniels, who turned 35 in March, was described as a fun-loving football fan with a tight circle of friends in the West End.
Yesterday, his mother spoke of sleepless nights and days haunted by the thought that this might become “the day that I find out all the answers I’m looking for”.
Her five-year-old grandson “has been asking where his daddy is, and we have no answer for him”.
“I think he understands, but does not understand,” she said, adding that the best the family can do is “distract him for a little bit”.
Addressing the community alongside her brother, Gregory Albuoy, Mrs Daniels said: “I’m here imploring you. If you have any information as to where my son is — please, please, please give it up”.
She stressed the anonymity afforded to callers at the Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477, where calls are received at a centre off the island.
Mrs Daniels said her son was someone who, “like most people his age, likes to party”.
Acknowledging that some might be reluctant to speak up, she repeatedly called for people to think of their own families.
Mrs Daniels was also candid that some might harbour their own impressions of Jevon, based on his past.
“I know a lot of people know my son and know about my son, but you know what? That’s my son. What he did or did not do, doesn’t matter. I just want my son.”
Mr Daniels is described as between 5ft 2in and 5ft 5in tall, brown-skinned, with brown eyes, a close haircut, and a tattoo on his left forearm.
He was last seen on May 16, and his disappearance was reported on May 19.
Detective Sergeant Jason Smith, who is leading the investigation, called the circumstances “very suspicious”, now raising “more suspicions that something untoward has happened to him”.
“The Sandys community is a very tightknit community, and Jevon’s circles of friends are even tighter,” he added.
“One of you knows where he is, and what has happened to him. Anyone that saw or heard from Jevon the week of May 16 — we want to hear from you. Where you saw him is very important to this investigation.”
Meanwhile, Mr Albuoy spoke directly to the people of his nephew’s neighbourhood.
“All of you from that area know me,” he said. “You know me. It’s time to pay up.”
Saying he loved his nephew, he reiterated his sister’s urge for those with information to speak up.
“A lot of you from that area know me from different circumstances. As I loved you as my sons, this is what I am asking of you. If you know something, say something.”
Closing her appeal, Mrs Daniels said: “Let your conscience guide you to make the right decision. My family would be eternally grateful.”
