In what can be said to be only an embarrassing climbdown, the transport ministry has revealed that there were no bus cancellations this morning after all.

In belatedly withdrawing an advisory sent to the media at 6.36am, the ministry has said: “Please be advised there were no bus cancellations. The night before the morning routes are run, decisions are made based on the number of buses available.

“After that determination was made, more buses in fact became available, so all routes ran. The ministry apologises for the miscommunication.”

The original advisory was said to have affected 18 routes.
