New appeal judge appointed
The Governor, George Fergusson, has appointed Sir Christopher Clarke as a new Justice to the Court of Appeal in Bermuda.
Sir Christopher, who was appointed a High Court Judge in 2005 and a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2013, will begin his new post on March 6, 2017.
“It is good to see such a distinguished lawyer join the Appeals Court,” Mr Fergusson said. “Bermuda is fortunate in being able to attract such high-level jurists to maintain the quality of its courts, providing a level of service at the highest possible level for the people of Bermuda and international business.”
Sir Christopher was Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1969. He took silk in 1984 and became a Bencher in 1991.
He was an Attorney of the Supreme Court of Turks and Caicos Islands in 1975 and a Judge of the Courts of Appeal of Jersey and Guernsey from 1998
He was also counsel to the Bloody Sunday Tribunal, which inquired into the deaths of 13 people by British Army soldiers in Londonderry in 1972.
