Reminder of inquiry into deal
The public got a reminder in the House of Assembly that the Commission of Inquiry tasked with investigating government contracts opted to include the contentious airport development deal.
Walter Roban, the Shadow Minister of Home Affairs, noted that the inclusion was reported by this newspaper in June, but seemed to have gone under the radar since.
Mr Roban said he hoped the commission would not get the same reception to its questions as had the Public Accounts Committee.
David Burt, the Acting Opposition leader and chairman of the PAC, has repeatedly criticised Bob Richards, the Minister of Finance, for the withholding of the development agreement’s schedules from the committee.
Mr Richards, meanwhile, has said that parts of the deal remain under a confidentiality agreement.
The commission has formally adjourned until September, and its public hearings will resume on September 28.
