Meeting called to discuss women’s issues

Giving voice: Kim Wilson, chair of the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Women’s Issues and Unemployment

A public meeting has been called to discuss the social and economic factors facing women in the workplace and the impact that unemployment is having on women and their families.

Organised by the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Women’s Issues and Unemployment, the event will take place on August 3 at 4pm in the Dr E.F. Gordon Memorial Hall at the Bermuda Industrial Union building on Union Square.

The committee has invited the director of the Department of Statistics to meet with them to provide statistical data and analyses. Also invited is Kelly Hunt, from the Coalition for the Protection of Children.

“The Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Women’s Issues and Unemployment is comprised of members of the House of Assembly and the Senate, and is authorised by Parliament to examine the various challenges facing women in the workplace and the impact that unemployment is having on women in particular and their families,” a committee statement said.

“The committee will, in due course, report their findings and recommendations for addressing these concerns to Parliament.”

The committee’s chairwoman is Progressive Labour Party MP Kim Wilson. Members include Walton Brown, Georgia Marshall, Nandi Outerbridge, Renee Ming and Leah Scott.
