A monument to the island’s Olympic athletes could be erected in Hamilton this autumn, according to a planning application.

The “Wall of Fame”, proposed by the Bermuda Olympic Association, would be placed west of the front entrance to City Hall.

According to the application, the curved “wall” would consist of six stone tablets of increasing height, each adorned with the names of the athletes who represented Bermuda in the Summer and Winter Olympics, along with the year of their participation and their specific discipline.

The smallest of the pillars would stand 3ft 6in while the tallest would reach 6ft 4in, with a base raising the total height of the tallest pillar to 6ft 10in above the ground.

The application also notes that the Olympic Association hopes the monument will be ready for dedication by mid-October.

Plans for the proposed monument are available for viewing at the Department of Planning offices in the Dame Lois Browne-Evans building.
