More than $62,000 was raised for charity by leading international companies in the eighth annual Give Back Games on Tuesday.

Hosted by The Centre on Philanthropy, the beach-style Olympics at Horseshoe Bay saw 11 company compete to raise money for their chosen local charity.

Elaine Butterfield, the Centre’s executive director, said: “We were all winners today, especially the non-profits of Bermuda and the community of needs that they serve.

“The games are an excellent opportunity to give our charities a little ‘bolster’ and to show how much we appreciate all that they do to make Bermuda a better place.

“Thank you to all of the corporate teams for your hard work today and leading up to the event. Thank you for caring enough to do it.

“Jenice Germain, Volunteer Coordinator at The Centre on Philanthropy, did an excellent job as Team Leader. The sun, sand, sweat and hard work made for a most successful event.”

The event was a “fun-filled” day of team building, featuring games such as flipper and shark relays, blindfolded water relay, a sand sculpting competition and other games to test the competitors’ athleticism.

Tokio Millennium Re Ltd won the day and $10,000 for their charity, Raleigh International Bermuda, as they swept to the finish with the best scores over some eleven games.

Chubb won the Give Back Games Facebook Challenge, winning an extra five points towards their final score for the day and an additional $500 for their charity, Friends of Hospice.

At the end of the event, over $62,000 was shared between the teams for their charities: second place saw Appleby win $8,500 for Meals on Wheels Bermuda and third place for $7,000 was won by Guy Carpenter & Company on behalf of Youth Net. All other companies were able to contribute $4,500 each to their chosen charities.
