Contest participants shed 402lbs
Participants in this year’s Thinner Winner Contest lost a combined 1,095 pounds and inches.
Twenty-five teams with 141 members between them shed a total of 402lbs and 693in over the course of the six-week fitness challenge organised by The Athletic Club.
“This year the energy was the best I’ve ever seen it in the club,” Kym Heron Scott, owner of The Athletic Club, told The Royal Gazette. “People were truly, truly engaged. It was very exciting.
“This programme is our fourth year running,” she added, noting that it has proven successful in helping participants lose weight and inches if they follow the advice provided through the programme.
Mrs Scott also stressed that the club will continue to support the participants.
“This is the beginning of the journey of their lifestyle change,” she said.
Redemption Team was announced as the overall winner at a special celebration at Victoria Park on Saturday, taking home the $2,000 cash prize.
Victorious team members Stephen Jones, Malika Dill, Nichole Hollis Smith, Akil Darrell, Juliette Darrell, and Davina Rawlins lost a total of 57.75in and 79.8lbs — an average body weight per person of 5.25 per cent and a team average percentage of body weight lost of 31.64 per cent.
“The winning results are based on team averages of percentage of body weight lost,” Mrs Scott explained, adding that this year’s contest was the “closest ever”.
Second place went to No Slack’n We Lean Business, with team members losing a total of 50.05in and 71lbs to reach a team average of percentage of body weight lost of 31.63 per cent.
Mr Darrell, who lost 16.75in, was also the winner of the Inch Worm Award. Ms Dill took home the Biggest Loser Award, having shed 21.9lbs over the six-week programme, and the Lifestyle Award went to Trina Davis-Williams.
