Housing Trust receives $5,000 donation
The Argus Group have donated $5,000 to Bermuda Housing Trust, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to “provide quality, affordable rental accommodation to Bermuda’s seniors who are in financial need, but also able to live independently.”
The money will help BHT to prepare vacant properties for new tenants, said an Argus statement.
“In order to keep rents affordable for seniors, it is important that the apartments be ready before anyone moves in,” added the statement. “Cleaning, painting, refurbishing and general maintenance of vacant apartments allows the smooth transition of new tenants.
John Barritt, chairman of BHT said: “We are very grateful for Argus’ support of Bermuda Housing Trust and the ageing population of Bermuda. There is an urgent and growing need for more homes and the Argus donation will help us to more efficiently update any vacant apartments so that we can better serve our seniors who need access to affordable housing units.”
John Doherty, executive vice-president, Property and Casualty of the Argus Group, and member of the Argus Group’s charity committee, said: “As an insurance company, Argus is responsible for helping businesses and individuals plan for and secure their futures. Our aim is to be a pioneer in affecting change and action to improve the lives of residents in Bermuda.
“Bermuda Housing Trust is an organisation devoted to assisting Bermuda’s ageing population and helping seniors to live independently through access to affordable housing. We are honoured to support them in this cause and to continue to help seniors when they need it most.”
The Trust currently has five properties throughout the island with a total of about 180 units. For more information about Bermuda Housing Trust, call 292-1322.
