Charity delighted over response for Haiti
A delighted charity appeal organiser has thanked the Bermudian public for donating almost 9,000lbs of clothing and footwear to the people of Haiti.
Natalie Simmons aimed to collect as many men’s, women’s and children’s items to send on to the impoverished nation, which continues to struggle with the after-effects of Hurricane Matthew last month.
After her campaign featured in The Royal Gazette, Ms Simmons received an overwhelming response, with donations filling three aircraft containers.
Courier company DHL flew all the clothes and shoes out of Bermuda free of charge on Thursday evening.
They will be distributed by the Church of God Liberated to people in the often-overlooked area of St Raphael.
“This has been a truly rewarding experience,” said Devonshire resident Ms Simmons.
“It is another miracle of our great God and has exceeded all expectations. I cannot thank the Bermudian public enough.”
