Hopefuls try to shine in Babymoon

More than 180 people came out to audition for a film set to start filming on the island this month.

The movie, a thriller with the working title Babymoon, follows a pregnant woman whose vacation to the island takes a dark turn when her husband disappears.

The film will feature Top Gun star Kelly McGillis and Kate Mansi from Days of Our Lives, as well as a number of Bermudians and a host of local hotspots including Fort St Catherine, Harbourfront, Fourways Inn, Coral Beach and the Fairmont Southampton.

Local film-maker Lucinda Spurling will direct the film and Burnt House Productions will serve as the local production company.

Brooke Williams, one of the producers, said: “These settings are fantastic. Pierangelo Lanfranchi from Harbourfront has been so supportive. And the Fairmont Southampton are keen to make this not just a Bermudian success, but a full US hit.” Babymoon’s executive producers include Scott Lines, Harry Scupham and Fiona Williams.

Mrs Williams said she was delighted to invest in the production, stating: “It gives these Bermudian actors an exciting opportunity to be showcased in a movie which gets international distribution.

Babymoon will inspire other projects, encourage more film financing and production on this beautiful island and strengthen Bermuda’s relationship with the global film market.”

While a large number of local actors attended auditions in late December, producers are still looking for extra actors for some scenes, asking anyone who may be interested in being involved to send a photograph and their availability to Burnt House Productions at babymooncasting@gmail.com.
