Service to be held for Lord Waddington

Lord Waddington, Governor of Bermuda from 1992 to 1997

A thanksgiving service will be held for Lord David Waddington in Britain on Thursday.

Lord Waddington, Governor of Bermuda from 1992 to 1997 and a key political figure in the UK, died on February 23, aged 87. According to an obituary announcement in The Daily Telegraph, a private cremation will take place before the thanksgiving service at St John the Baptist Church, Horsington, Somerset, on Thursday at 1.30pm.

Lord Waddington was at the helm in Bermuda during former Premier Sir John Swan’s bid for independence in 1995. In Britain, he was Conservative Home Secretary under Margaret Thatcher at the time of the poll tax riots and the Strangeways prison disturbances in 1990, later serving as leader of the House of Lords.
