Brit judged the top Town Crier

A Brit has been declared overall winner of the Bermuda International Town Crier Competition which was held in St George’s last Wednesday.

Mark Wylie from Calne in Wiltshire, defended his title in a contest which featured 16 Town Criers from both sides of the Atlantic — several from Canada.

Christopher Whyman from Kingston, Ontario took second place with David McKee from the city of Brantford, Ontario third.

Daniel Richer Dit Fleche and Lady Julia Dudley from the National Capital Region of Ottawa-Gatineau were declared ‘best dressed’.

The competition, which started after the annual Peppercorn Ceremony in the Olde Towne, continued for three days.

On day one, Mr Wylie took top honours, ahead of Mr Whyman. Bruce Kruger from Bracebridge, Ontario, placed third.

On day two, in Hamilton, Mr Wylie again triumphed, with Mr Whyman second and James Stewart from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, third.

On the third day, Mr Whyman turned the tables, beating Mr Wylie into second place. Bill McKee from the Township of Uxbridge/Scugog in Oshawa, Ontario rounded out the top three.
