Planned improvements to the parking lot at Horseshoe Bay will be completed on time.

In a statement release this afternoon, the Ministry of Public Works said that the Horseshoe Bay Transportation Hub will open to the public beginning on Monday.

The entrance to the beach off South Road has been closed since work began in late January.

Minor works — such as planting, soil stabilisation, and bathroom painting — will be ongoing, the Ministry said. “Final touches” will also be put on the pedestrian pathway on Monday and Tuesday.

Senator Craig Cannonier, Minister of Public Works, said he was “very pleased” that the project would be wrapped on schedule.

“The improvement works will greatly increase the ease of transport and accessibility at the beach, as per the Bermuda ‘Beach Vision’,” he said in Friday’s release.

The concession at the beach will also be open for business.

Among the changes to the hub are: increased accessible, car, and bike parking spaces; dedicated drop-off and pick-up areas for buses, taxis, and shuttles; greater access to the area for emergency vehicles through the service road located along the fence line; and upgraded bathroom facilities, featuring new outdoor showers.

New LED street lighting in the area will also provided added security, the Ministry said.
