Berkeley: Ignore ‘clarion call’ e-mail

Berkeley Institute says it has issued no notice for the public to turn up and escort students from school on Thursday.

Berkeley Institute has insisted it had not made a “clarion call” for masses of people to attend its grounds today as suggested on a post on social media.

A post on the Facebook group MAJ’s List read: “The Berkeley Institute of late has been experiencing issues with safety on the buses and in the schoolyard. The police seem to be ignoring their calls for assistance! Therefore, a clarion call for there to be 100 men on campus — Thursday June 15, 10am-12.30pm.

However, chairman of the board of governors at Berkeley, Craig Bridgewater said: “We understand there is a communication circulating via e-mail and social media asking for a public presence at the Berkeley Institute campus on Thursday, June 15, 2017. We would like to advise that this is not an official position or request from the Berkeley Institute.”
