Argus sponsors training motorcycles
Argus is sponsoring two motorcycles for a rider training programme launched at the Berkeley Institute.
The Argus-B//moto Advanced Rider Training Programme teaches participants the best practices for road safety and supports the concept of graduated licencing for motorcycle riders.
Students take part in ten hours of training, split between off-road, in classroom, and on-road instruction, and the two sponsored 50cc Peugeot Tweet cycles will be available to participants.
“These bikes allow students who may not own their own bike to participate in the programme while they are still in school,” Antoine Richards, who runs the programme, said. “I would like to thank Argus for their generous sponsorship.”
John Doherty, The Argus Group’s executive vice-president for property and casualty, added: “Argus is a strong advocate for road safety in Bermuda, and this programme is an important first step in preparing young drivers to be safe drivers.
“The sponsorship of these motorbikes will ensure that all students are able to participate and none are otherwise disadvantaged because they don’t have a bike to use.
“The students can complete the programme, learn new skills and be ready to drive on Bermuda’s roads in a safe manner.”
To date, 50 students have enrolled for the first set of classes and five students have completed a trial of the programme.
Those who complete the programme will be interviewed six months, one year and 18 months after completion to evaluate the effectiveness in reducing road accidents.
