Last chance for Burch
David W. Burch, the would-be independent candidate for Warwick South Central, may have been granted a last chance to throw his hat in the ring for July 18.
“It’s a case of David up against Goliath,” Mr Burch told The Royal Gazette, after appealing to Government House to get a review of his nomination.
The island’s voters acquired a modest five independent aspirants on July 4, when Mr Burch’s documents were turned away on a technicality that he now claims was mistaken.
Mr Burch maintains he was only told that his primary nominator was not registered as a voter after he had already paid his fee.
While he had a back-up nominator in a separate document, he said the back-up was not accepted on the rationale that the first and second nominators had to be on the same paper.
After speaking last week with Government House, Mr Burch said he had been referred back to the Parliamentary Registry to have his case examined this morning.
“If they’re trying to impress the people with what is being done going forward, this would be a good start and a good example,” Mr Burch said.
“They should have looked up the name and made sure it was on the register before they took my money.”
