A 62-year-old man nearly drowned after he hit his head and fell into Hamilton Harbour on Wednesday night.

The victim was helped out of the water and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He was said to remain in a critical condition in the intensive care unit last night.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which happened in the area of Front Street and Burnaby Street at about 9.20pm.
