A cruise passenger on a ship bound for Bermuda was rushed to hospital after suffering a medical emergency at sea.

The Norwegian Dawn was met at the dock by an ambulance when it arrived on Sunday and a 36-year-old passenger was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital

The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre said it was contacted by crew of the ship, who explained it would arrive early due because of the emergency. A report from the operations centre added: “Logistics were put in place for Sunday morning arrival with local pilot and emergency medical services awaiting patient arrival.

“On final approach to Bermuda, it was agreed that the safest method for patient disembarkation would be when the vessel was alongside in Dockyard versus transfer by pilot boat to Ordnance Island. The patient was successfully landed ashore a few hours later and taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”
