Tech students finish summer programme

The Technology Leadership Forum this week celebrated the graduation of four students from its summer internship programme.

Cameron Moulder, Zia Seymour, Somer Froud and Alex Dore were all honoured in a ceremony to mark the completion of the intensive 12-week programme.

Walter Roban, the Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs, who gave a speech at the ceremony in the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club on Wednesday, told the interns: “You have cultivated skills that will carry you through your chosen career path with more ease, aptitude, and understanding than when you first started.

“Ideally, once you’ve successfully completed your chosen field of study and graduated, you will be very well-placed to engage in a fulfilling and challenging career path.”

The students gained ICT industry experience through classroom learning and fieldwork, and were tasked with developing a mobile app to support Cybertips, a government-sponsored initiative to tackle cybercrime.

Vicki Coelho, non-executive chairman of Fireminds Ltd and TLF board member, told the youngsters to take risks as they move forward in the industry.

She said: “Be willing to take a chance, take a risk with something new. Career, hobbies, dating, sports, whatever.

“It doesn’t mean you should be impulsive. It does mean that you should take calculated risks.

“Get yourself in the arena. Be a participant and not a spectator. Don’t always wait for approval or perfect knowledge. Do something.”

Meanwhile the interns paid tribute to Kyle Swan, a TLF alumni, and named him the most inspiring IT professional.

They credited him with making an impact by providing instruction and advice.

Companies and industry professionals who provided the training and training facilities included CCS, Connectech, Deloitte, Ontru, Jan Fraser, Brittany Easton, Sloane Chinapoo, Marisa Stones, Ronnie Viera, Lloyd Holder, Nicole Edmunds, David Petty, Chris Phillips, Damion Wilson and Coral Wells.
