TS Lee and Maria both past the island

Tropical storms Lee and Maria have both passed their closest point of approach to the island.

Maria was 388 nautical miles north-northeast of Bermuda at noon and the Bermuda Weather Service said it was not a threat to the island.

The BWS said: “Maria is racing towards the east-northeast at 27 kt [31mph].

“This steering pattern is forecast to persist, and Maria is anticipated to continue on this track with an increase in forward speed until dissipation.”

The service added: “Winds and lingering cloud cover should diminish through the afternoon as high pressure ushers in cooler and less humid air.”

Lee, which was downgraded to a tropical storm today, was 874 nautical miles northeast of Bermuda at noon.

While the height of the season elapsed earlier this month, it does not officially end until November 30.
