A 64-year-old man escaped with just minor cuts after his car overturned on Wednesday.

The Hamilton Parish man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The single-vehicle crash happened on South Road in Devonshire near Brighton Hill at 10.15pm on Wednesday. It is believed the vehicle hit an uneven surface which caused it to overturn.

It was the third crash that took place within a four-hour period that evening — the first two of which led to drivers being arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The first incident was a hit-and-run involving two vehicles near Elbow Beach on South Road, Paget, at about 6.30pm.

Police said: “One of the vehicles involved was apparently driven away from the scene following the crash, but was later located and impounded.

“The driver, believed to be a 43-year-old Warwick man, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”

In the second incident, a car hit a 59-year-old woman as she walked in the area of Mangrove Bay Road, Sandys, at 8.15pm.

The victim was treated for an arm injury at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was detained for further treatment.

Police said: “The vehicle understood to be involved was later located and impounded.

“The driver, believed to be a 37-year-old Sandys man, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”
