The Garden Club of Bermuda and Marian Manuel have awarded the Ed Manuel Memorial Scholarship to a student studying agriculture.

Malachi Symonds, who is studying at Earth University in Costa Rica, was given $7,000 to help fund his course.

A Garden Club spokeswoman said: “It is our pleasure and privilege to give that scholarship to Malachi, who is currently a student at Earth University in Costa Rica studying for a bachelor of science in agronomical science.

“We wish Malachi all the very best in his studies and hope he will bring his knowledge and enthusiasm back to Bermuda on completion of his programme.”

The cheque was presented to Mr Symonds’ parents, Troy and Tona Symonds.

The scholarship was set up with donations made in memory of Ms Manuel’s late husband.
